The European Commission published guidelines on AI Act transparency obligations for providers and deployers, applicable from 2 August 2026.
Providers and deployers of chatbots, synthetic content systems, and general-purpose AI models subject to transparency duties.
The guidance interprets obligations that take effect in three weeks. It is the Commission's clearest statement of what compliance looks like before enforcement begins.
Review the guidelines against current transparency implementations—chatbot disclosures, content watermarking, GPAI documentation. Where the guidance names a practice your system does not perform, treat that as the Commission's preview of what enforcement will target first.
